Milia 2000

Fraynework Multimedia was one of only 15 Victorian companies to exhibit at Milia 2000 - the world's interactive content marketplace - held between February 15 and 18 at Cannes, France. More than 7000 delegates attended Milia 2000, representing companies from all around the world.

Milia is intensive: exhibits, conferences, networking, industry and social events are all part of the very full program. Milia is considered by its organisers to provide a unique cross-sector opportunity for acquisition of content and the development of new business in emerging marketplaces.

Adele Howard, Director of Fraynework Multimedia, said that the opportunity to attend Milia 2000 enabled her not only to demonstrate Fraynework's products but "to see that what we are doing is world standard." Lore of the Land was very well received, particularly for its graphics and use of video. "I found too that companies wanted to talk to us. They appreciated our values and our philosophy."

THE PEOPLE'S WALK FOR RECONCILIATION

Across Sydney Harbour Bridge - Sunday, 28 May 2000

You and your friends and family are invited to join the People's Walk for Reconciliation across Sydney Harbour Bridge on May 28.

The walk is an opportunity for people to show support for the reconciliation process.

People from all walks of life, ages and background are expected to join together in an atmosphere of fun and spontaneity. Australians for Reconciliation, Indigenous organisations, schools, Faith communities, unions, football clubs and service organisations are among the many groups expected to take part.

A free public concert at Darling Harbour will follow the walk, featuring top performers such as Midnight Oil, Mental as Anything, Jimmy Little, John Williamson, Coloured Stone, The Dave Graney Show, Saltwater Band and Gangajang.

Pledge Books enabling individuals and organisations to record their commitment to the ongoing process of reconciliation will be available for signing at booths at Darling Harbour. These books, to be circulated by the Council throughout Australia between June and September, will become an important part of the Council's final report to Parliament on progress towards reconciliation.

The walk will officially start at 8 am with a ‘welcome to country' and a blessing. Led by Indigenous leaders, leaders from the wider community and young people, the procession will continue all morning from the north side of the harbour to the southern shore. Roving entertainers will amuse the crowd.

To join the walk, please catch public transport to the starting point - North Sydney Railway Station - to prevent traffic and transport problems. People travelling from outer areas should park their car at their local station and catch the train to North Sydney. Advice on public transport can be obtained from Transport Infoline on 131 500.

Council welcomes COAG agreement on reconciliation and calls for actions to back up the words

The Chairperson, Dr Evelyn Scott, and the Deputy Chairperson, Sir Gustav Nossal, have welcomed today's COAG announcement on Reconciliation and have called for it to be followed up with practical actions which will make a difference. Dr Scott said that the Council in particular welcomed:

  • the leadership role the COAG has decided to take in advancing reconciliation;

  • the commitment to a national approach based on partnerships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples; and

  • the decision to develop performance monitoring strategies and benchmarks through Commonwealth/State Ministerial Councils, and for COAG to review progress in 12 months and then periodically thereafter.

Dr Scott and Prof. Nossal welcomed COAG's nomination of three areas for priority action.

  • investing in community leadership initiatives;

  • reviewing and revamping programs and services to ensure they deliver practical measures that support families, children and young people - in particular measures for tackling family violence, drug and alcohol dependency, and other symptoms of community dysfunction; and

  • forging greater links between the business sector and indigenous communities to help promote economic independence.
