Ray Jackson was the spokesperson for the Hickey family after the recent riots in Sydney's Redfern. He will be speaking at a public meeting in Melbourne about the events leading to and issues behind the riots.

Jackson is the former Secretary of the Aboriginal Deaths in Custody Watch Committee and current President of the Indigenous Social Justice Association. His decades of experience in fighting for Aboriginal rights and working in communities such as Redfern will provide a unique insight behind both Redfern and broader issues of racism and black resistance in Australia today.

Send a Sorry Day Message

The National Indigenous Times newspaper (NIT) ran a special 'Sorry Day' section in it's May 26 edition (which coincides with National Sorry Day).

"We're inviting all Australians - black and white - to submit a free message. It can be an apology, a comment, a hope or aspiration for the future, or even a message to the Prime Minister - basically it's your chance to send a message to the nation through NIT.
We've already received more than 100 submissions, but we're hoping for thousands! "

NIT is available in most major newsagencies (in the ethnic section).

SPECIAL SECTION: Our feature also includes a special 'Sorry' section for people named John Howard - we figure if 'the' John Howard won't apologise, then 'a' John Howard is better than nothing. If you know any John Howards, or even J. Howards, please forward this message on. Submissions are also encouraged from people named 'Vanstone' and/or 'Ruddock'.
