Focus Question
- What cultures make up your community?
- How/why did they come to this area?
- What do we know about these cultures and how do they impact on our community?
- How have these influenced/ enhanced our lives?
Activities
- Brainstorm children's community/cultural backgrounds
- On a map of world identify and mark countries that the children or Ancestors came from
- Interview/survey grandparents, parents, elderly about their cultural background
- Make a travel brochure stating the benefits of your region
- Use a Venn diagram/illustration to show the differences and similarities
- Discuss the impact these cultures have on: beliefs/practices, food, clothing, family structure, housing
- Make a cottage displaying a variety of different cultural influences in your community
