Singers/songwriters of the Gunditjmara region

AndyLook at the index of singers/songwriters featured on the CD-ROM.

Follow the lyrics as you listen to their songs. Identify the stories that are being told in these songs.

What do the lyrics tell you about the artist's love of their country and the issues that are of importance to them?

Read the biographies of these singers/songwriters in Gunditjmara Musicians.

How does learning about the artists help you to understand and appreciate their songs?

Take note of their other recordings and try to listen to more of their music.

Reflect on your own experiences -

What are the key features of the area of Australia you call home?

What are the particular memories you hold of growing up in that place?

Tina SaundersCelebrate your own love of country - compile a list of words and phrases to describe the features of the area where you grew up and use that list as a starting point for writing a narrative of your experiences.

Choose appropriate images to illustrate your narrative. These might be found in your family's photo album.

Share your story with other people from the area - your peers, neighbours, long-time residents, senior citizens, the traditional owners…

How has sharing your experience helped you learn more about your local area?

Research the history of your local area pre and post European settlement. Contact the Native Title Representative Body to find out who the traditional owners are if they are not known to you.
