Aboriginal people:
The Aboriginal people lived very different lives to the white people. They called themselves a variety of names depending on where they lived. The Aboriginal people also spoke different languages to the white men. They had many different beliefs on how the world was created.

There are no Aboriginal people left in our area because a long time ago when it was just Aboriginal people in Australia, the white men came in boats and took over the land and killed some of the Aborigines. The white men probably thought that they were strange so they killed them and took away their children. The aborigines spoke differently to them, they also looked different and lived a different life. Soon more white people came to Australia, and there soon became less Aborigines. It was cruel what our ancestors did to the Aborigine people but we can't change the past but we can be sorry.

The Jabiru:
The Jabiru is a very large bird that lives in the wetlands. The Jabiru is very much like a stork. It is the only stork found in Australia. The Jabiru lives in the northern part of Australia where there is lots of water. In north Queensland the Jabiru has a nickname, policeman-bird because it stands very straight and lives on its own. The Jabiru is a very quiet type of bird. It has a black head and neck , white wings and red legs. The aboriganals have a very famous story that explains how the Jabiru made the long beaches.

Invasion:
Captain James Cook claimed to have discovered the East Coast of Australia but he had not, for the Aborigines had been living there for thousands of years. When the settlers arrived in Australia they claimed the land as theirs which meant they had stolen the land from the Aborigines. They did not ask the Aborigines to share their land they just took it. The Aboriginal people call this invasion and a ship is the sign of invasion. Today white people are trying to find ways make up for stealing the Aborigines land.
